E2 west tower

E2 is great bc it's full of Kellogg students, so group meetings and pregames take place here all the time. The gym is convenient and rarely too crowded. Everything is in good shape and depending on the month you can get good deals on rent compared to the other big buildings. There are issues with the elevators a fair bit, and you cannot buzz people up (you have to go down to get them in west tower). Management can be annoying to work with and some of the doormen aren't super nice.

E2

E2 is a little ways out of the way of downtown evanston but lots of Kellogg meetings / bus pickups / etc are there so it is definitely convenient. The pool and gym are nice too although overall I feel the building is becoming outdated.

Overpriced, terrible management, great maintenance team, issues with elevators

The apartment is great. Heater/AC is VERY noisy though - fan only works at max speed, impossible to have a tranquil night of sleep without ear plugs. Management has serious issues with responding to e-mails or answering the phone/returning calls, but work great if you are physically present in their office. Maintenance is great - usually able to do small fixes on the same day with no extra charges. West tower has been with only one working elevator for several weeks now, while management is struggling to get the second one fixed - appears to be very serious and hard to fix given the time frame, so something to consider in the future. Had issues with reserved elevators upon moving in (broken elevator, mix-up with booking by management), but management reimbursed extra expenses with movers so all good. Also, it is very annoying that in the west tower you can't have guests come up on their own - you HAVE to go down to pick them up. There's a completely useless callbox below which will give them access to a lounge but not to the elevators. In addition, the "Fantastic pool" is only open for 3 months during the summer as it's outdoors, so it's quite useless. Gym is OK, but missing a few key equipment like a pulley (whoever bought them in the first place had probably never used a gym before).

Relatively Expensive, some management issues, but everyone lives here.

E2 has been a pretty ok experience so far. Compared to other buildings (based on talking to other classmates)

On the plus side: the building is full of Kellogg students, basketball court/gym, modern appliances, in-apt laundry

On the neutral side: about a 20 min walk to the hub

On the negative side: seems like the elevators go down at least 2x a month, small rooms for money, v expensive compared to other options, heater is really loud for some reason

Overall, living in E2 is nice, but I will be considering cheaper options next year.

Great, but definitely other options!

I love my apartment, but it's expensive. When I came for DAK a lot of students told me that I had to live in E2 and made it sound like it was one of 2 options and it was the best. It's great, but all of the options are great and I don't think it's worth the added expense. I would have looked at Centruum, The Reserve, and Optima Horizons more closely but no one had even mentioned those. There is no 1 place to live by any means, students live all over the place and you won't feel left out because you're not in a certain building. With that said, I like that E2 is one of the options closest to campus. The units themselves are the nicest out of all of the units.

Social but overpriced

Very social building with a lot of MBA students. I wanted to live alone so I chose to live in E2 because I knew I'd be able to easily see friends. However, the building is not well maintained (ex. elevators have been out of service several times). It's also incredibly overpriced -- I love my little studio apartment but it is more expensive than apartments that I lived in in NYC and London!

Nice apartments and community, way too expensive

E2 is a nice place to live. The units are nice and the overall property and attention is pretty good (minus the broken west tower elevators and random issues that seem to pop up once in a while that become larger issues than they should).

All that being said, the value of E2 is very poor. The rent is much higher than other locations and E2 is no longer the newest or nicest property in Evanston for students. Further, the rent increase from my first year to my second year was pretty steep. I'd avoid signing a 1-yr lease here because you'll either decided to stay a 2nd year at a higher rate or have to deal with 2 moves. Would recommend the new buildings or a 2-yr lease at OHO or OV.

Good apartments, poor management

Overall E2 is a great place to live - tons of other Kellogg students there so easy to get together and the places themselves are relatively nice. The only drawback is management is very poor at fixing problems promptly. The west tower elevator has broken down multiple times this year and I've had to walk up 11 flights of stairs while they fixed it. Also internet goes out a couple times a year.

Nice but Expensive

Nice units, good amenities, lots of students in the building. Expensive compared to other buildings in Evanston. Be prepared for slow elevators, bad management, and lots of false fire alarms. The required, included WiFi is slow at its best and goes down a lot.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Downtown Evanston has everything you need. E2 is walkable to campus, a Target, and plenty of restaurants, as well as Metra and L stations to get to Chicago. Right across the street is a Subway, a Thai restaurant, and a pizza place, plus there’s a 7-Eleven about a block away, so you’re very close to options if you need food in a pinch.
Close to downtown Evanston but a bit far from E2/the reserve. One of closest apartments to Trader Joes/Whole Foods/Jewel Osco while also being close to campus. Very close to the lake!
Downtown Evanston has everything you need from a downtown including grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores.
Downtown Evanston is great - plenty of great food within walking distance, Metra and El trains right nearby, a really nice place to be. Only downside is it's far from school and the only truly walkable grocery store is a Whole Foods, which can get expensive. Overall, wouldn't want to live elsewhere though.
Close to grocery stores and restaurants. Very easy access to Lake Michigan as well!
There isn't much to do here, but that's true pretty much everywhere in Evanston. We're in walking distance to all of "downtown" Evanston, so restaurants / fast food / subway, etc. It's a slightly longer walk than desired to Kellogg, but that's fine.
The apartment is central to downtown and is walking distance to most bars, restaurants, shops, beach, etc. Evanston is a bit of a sleepy town (especially during the pandemic...I've been told it was much more vibrant pre-pandemic).
I live just south of the main downtown area, and it's the perfect intersection of being close to the action but also a bit removed when you want some quiet. I like being a in a more residential pocket, so there is slightly less foot traffic and really nice areas to walk around with a dog, etc.
