Comfortable and sunny apartment, but not the best location for social life

I love my apartment. The windows are huge and let in lots of natural sunlight. I do not have to worry about paying for utilities, and if there is a problem, someone has always fixed it the same day. (and to be clear, I have had only 2 problems in 2 years). I feel very safe in my building and will continue to live there until I graduate law school.

Columbia Plaza Review

We have a one bedroom apartment at Columbia Plaza and love the spacious layout. I have not seen another apartment downtown with the spacious living/dining area here. The main room fits two couches, two end tables, a coffee table, a TV stand with TV, two desks with chairs (and work space for cabinets, printers, etc), three bookshelves, and a four chair kitchen table without becoming crowded. The bedroom is large as well with a walk-in closet. The bathroom has a supply closet, which is very convenient for storage. The location is convenient and close to the metro. It is nice having access to a gym, but the gym is not comprehensive. Despite this, it is still better than most DC apartment building gyms in the area. My only complaints about the place are the archaic rent-paying system and the disorganization of some employees in the main rental office. There is no online option to pay rent. The employee that helped us with our move was very disorganized. She frequently asked questions about information that I had given her in prior emails and did not communicate clearly. On the night we arrived to move in (at 10PM after moving across the country), she had forgotten to leave the keys for the night attendant despite confirming that she would prior to our move. Despite this incompetent employee, we now love Columbia Plaza! It is worth it to live here, just be careful to confirm and reconfirm all details about your move!

It's ok

If you need to be close to GW, this is an ok deal. It's old, and not very classy, but it does the job. I have had trouble with the professionalism of the front desk sometimes, and also it is really close to Virginia Avenue, which can be noisy with the busses, fire trucks, police sirens, ambulances, motorcades, garbage trucks, etc.

Great place to live

Columbia Plaza is a great place, and I would recommend to anyone, but especially grad students at GW. The location can't be beat, but you are also right on the edge of the District if you need to make a quick getaway into Virginia for dinner or errands. Building itself is good, walls are pretty thick and you don't hear much noise from neighbors, and trash chutes are on each floor so you don't have to walk too far or outside to dispose of things. Parking is a little pricey, but overall a great place to live.

Good Location/Average-Poor Amenities

Location is excellent. For what you pay, you get a lot of space. Amenities aren't particularly great (i.e. gym) but the apartments themselves are nice and somewhat updated.

Columbia Plaza Apartments

Great prices for the square footage! Unfortunately the amenities are lacking and there are no washer/driers in-unit, however, gas stoves, electricity, and water are included. Overall it's a great value and in an awesome location. The plaza in between the buildings has a few restaurants open during the week and a market with a fully stocked liquor store that's open Sunday-Saturday.

Close and Nice

Columbia Plaza is a quick walk to school and not far from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. A convenience store, dry cleaner, and a few places to eat are located in the plaza. A number of GW grad students live in the building so it is easy to make friends, but it is not overbearing if you don't want to be social all the time.

Good location, bad service

The location is good, quite near the Metro station. The price is not bad considering how much space I get in the apartment. The front desk's service is terrible.
PS: a mouse maybe came in to our apartment at one point.

Great views of the Washington Monument, Potomac and Kennedy Center

Awesome apartments close to the school where a lot of other graduate students from George Washington live. Has dry cleaners, a food and liquor market, and a gym all right on site. Parking is expensive, but it's because we share a garage with the state department. Great value and place to live, especially if you have other friends looking for place. There are 5 different buildings and always apartments available to rent and live near a friend group.

Foggy Bottom Reviews

Lots of pretty row homes, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, and my school. Lots of trees and a dog park near-by. Overall, very pretty and scenic to walk through, and also close to other neighborhoods and essential stores.
I like living in Foggy, it's easy to get to school but also is close to Georgetown, which is fun for food and shopping. The northern part of Foggy (near GW) is about 10 minute walk to Dupont too, which is great.
Short walk to Georgetown, West End, and Dupont Circle. Many restaurants nearby and close to metro so you can get to anywhere in the city conveniently.
Nice to be so close to school. Short walk from the mall and other tourist destinations. Bar/restaurant/night life scene leaves a lot to be desired.
It is really close to campus so a lot of GW folks live here! You can reach a lot of places on public transit.
I personally enjoy the quietness of the neighborhood and its location within a close walking distance of campus, Georgetown, the water, and convenience/grocery stores. The neighborhood is also very safe, I am a woman in my early 20's and I have never felt unsafe walking home late at night near my apartment.
Foggy Bottom is a great place to live given the proximity to the law school. It's also within walking distance of Georgetown and Dupont Circle which are fun places to go out with friends and classmates. It's also has lots of bike racks for the Capital Bikeshare nearby, and the Foggy Bottom metro stop is a few blocks up the street.
A lot of college kids around but still not to noisy. Some food places a 5 to 8 minute walk away. Also a block away from Tonic, which is a great, cheap happy hour place for drinks, burgers, and tater tots. It seems pretty safe. Love the short walk to GW though (4 or 5 minutes).
