Expensive/convenient

While expensive, living at Mass Court is convenient (only a 5 minute metro ride from HUCM), and allows me the ability to live downtown. My environment was a very important factor in my decision to live in Chinatown instead of surrounding suburbs.

Great price

I live with a roommate. I technically live in the den so the rent is much cheaper than what is typically paid.

Perfect Spot at Central DC

You'll find EVERYTHING you need within few blocks. Forget about having a car and enjoy the great city.

Commuting is really easy as access to 3 metro lines (yellow, green and red) is a matter of 2-3 blocks. Many DC metro buses connect with ALL DC areas and DC Circulator stops by right around the corner.

Feeling like need a get a away? Union Station is 10 minutes walking from the place

Great location!

This apartment building is only two-three blocks from metro stations, Safeway, VIDA gym, restaurants and bars. My unit is very small compared to the price I pay but I'm happy with it given the neighborhood it's in. I could use a bigger gym with newer equipment.

Great Building/A Bit Fratty

Mass Court is an excellent building and provides a good value. It is relatively cheap compared to other nice buildings in the area and is walking distance to work for me. It is walking distance to the National Mall, Union Station, Capitol Building, Chinatown, Convention Center, and many other areas that someone would enjoy frequenting in DC. Moreover, the building sits right next to the Fraternal Order of Police and FBI's DC Field Office, outside of maybe the Whitehouse I feel like it's the safest block in DC. You also never know who you are going to run into in the building from Rand Paul to Washington Wizards players.

There are two rooftops that are both nice. One has a lot of seating and tables along with four large grills. The other has an open-year-round heated pool and hot tub. The way that the one rooftop does not have a functioning lock to close it late night means that the residents of that floor get to enjoy a lot of noise into the night coming through the thin doors from the residents that are the reason I called the building fratty. I knew from attending Georgetown Law that a lot of kids with more access to their parents' money than sense lived in the building, i.e. the kid with the Martha's Vineyard shirt, short shorts, and boat-shoes on that I had to teach how to turn a grill on after he wondered why his burgers (that were placed on the bun rack) had not cooked after a half hour. Those same kids tend to drink and leave their empty cans and other trash for the building staff to clean up as though they have no home-training. Some are considerate, but many can be rude and don't have a sense of respect in common space.

That all being said the building staff is friendly and generally effective, George is utterly outstanding. The amenities are pretty nice. The location is really good. And it is generally a great place to live and somewhere I'm satisfied to be at. They also allow pets, which I may cave-in to my wife and get--at least all the dogs I have seen have been better behaved than the law students.

Super fratty but great location

Perfect location for work but this place has way too many fratty students. I think they are law students, which is kind of sad. The place has 2 rooftops, one of which has a pool. The rooftops here are very nice but often crowded during the summer months. The's a small gym and a little lounge. Utilities are not included and seem to get higher constantly for no real reason. Parking is $225/mo. but worth it IMO because there is too much going on outside on the streets so I wouldn't leave my car out there.

Great apartment with great deal

Disclaimer- If you are not a georgetown law student like me you may feel like an outsider here. They have a ton of social events and study groups. However, it's a great building with a ton of amenities and great rooftop. Location is amazing too..... Very close to chinatown and a ton of restaurants. I love that I can walk to work. The apartments are not the most modern with chrome appliances like a lot of the new apartments of mass ave. but they are very well maintained, and we still have washers and dryers and it's great for the rent and location.

Terrible Experience

Nothing really to say except I regret moving in here so bad. Leasing staff was awful from the get go, but over time they continue to amaze me with how many times they can mess up. I will say that the staff who works in the building (concierge) are amazing and really go out of their way to accomodate. I'm a student but the type of students/young adults who live here are not the type of people you want to regularly associate yourself with. The common areas are regularly disgusting. The apartments are starting to get out of date and the worst part are the bathrooms. There is no ventilation so it is always so humid in there. I have a studio set up, but I cant even get ready in the bathroom because it is so hot.

Awesome location, some of the staff is great, but I can't wait to leave.

Penn Quarter Reviews

13 reviews
There are always places to eat and things to do. Also the apartment is only about 1 mi from the Mall so it's great if you are a runner. In terms of getting to work it typically takes me 50min-1 hour on the metro one way and the metro stop is a couple of blocks from the building. I typically drive to work which (by commuting slightly before peak morning traffic and slightly after peak evening traffic) is around 35-40 min one way. The building is right off of 395, which means you don't have to do too much city driving ever.
Penn quarter is close to most places. Out of three roommates, two of us work in NoMa and one works near Farragut. All three of us walk when it is nice weather. The area doesn't have a lot of really cool, cultural bars but for every day places they are totally fine. There are lots of nearby groceries - safeway and walmart are walking distance from me. Its a safe area that can be a little pricey for rent.
I enjoy the fact that there are numerous places to eat and happy hour at in the neighborhood. My only complaint is that it doesnt necessarily have a "club" or "lounge spot".
Penn Quarter is a great neighborhood because you are really at the center of the city. It is walking distance to the Capitol, White House, and monuments. You are in the heart of the museum district with access to several of DC's famous museums. The restaurants and bars are great and have a ton of variety.
Chinatown. Good food and located close to the Verizon Center.
Very safe and lots of restaurants and bars. It is great for dinner and happy hour. Very close to the mall and all the monuments. Great for running and outdoor activities. Life night and day.
Great, lots of restaurants
Chinatown is great because there is always something to do and lots of good bars and food nearby (and it's just a short walk to the Safeway). The area feels safe because there are always people around. That said, all the excitement means it can be loud and Verizon Center events can clog up public transportation. Biggest downside is the distance from campus.
