Sedona|Slate reviews and highlights
- on the pricier side
- new and clean building
- central location for highway access
- small gym
- safe with toggles required to get into the elevators for extra security
Safe, convenient (esp for pets)
I've lived in Sedona for 1.5 years. The amenities are awesome (gym/rooftop pool/grill area/dog walking area). It is quite expensive, there is construction happening for the back apartments. Rosslyn is definitely not a downtown area but has easy access to downtown or Courthouse/Clarendon.

Not Recommended
At first glance, the apartment building seems impressive but it is all appearances... Appliances malfunction frequently... Walls are thin... Gym is tiny (if you work out on a regular basis you will probably want to go to an outside gym)... Area for dogs does not have a fence so no off leash area... Better options around...

Great location but overpriced
Very close to the Rosslyn metro and close to all the major roadways in the area. The neighborhood is very safe. Dog friendly. Biggest problem is with amenities that are constantly breaking down. Apartment needs better amenities to justify price of rent.

Good location, bad amenities and expensive
The location is great and the area is safe. The metro is only a few blocks away and there are lots of cool restaurants and bars popping up in the neighborhood. Lots of issues with the washing machines and other amenities like the sinks. A little expensive.

Not worth the money
Two years at Slate and the cost of rent does not correlate to the living experience. Many issues with appliances malfunctioning. Tiny gym and even smaller pool. To reserve the lounge you have to pay $50 per hour with a 3 hour minimum (and provide a $500 deposit). The supposed complimentary coffee from 6-11am is NEVER open at 6am. Concierge often not at front desk making getting packages sometimes difficult. The positives are: a relatively fast response to apartment issues, even if the issue is not fixed; a select few of the staff members are very very sweet; and there are multiple floor plans to select from. Overall, would not recommend Sedona-Slate.

Very nice apartment
Sedona Slate is well kept and clean and the surrounding areas feel very safe. The front desk is always very polite and my neighbors and fellow residents are incredibly friendly. The surrounding area is great as well - there is a Target and Safeway within walking disance, easy metro access, and a Starbucks right across from the building.

Upmarket Apartment
Location is prime: 5 min walk to Rosslyn metro, 2 min walk to cab stand, 15-20 min walk to Georgetown or Clarendon. Growing number of restaurants and a new Target right across the street. Safe. Building is new and clean. Great gym and rooftop pool. Pretty decent social events. Good layout in the units. Helpful staff. Haven't found a better place in the neighborhood.

Great apartment in Rosslyn
This is one of the newer buildings in the Rosslyn area. I like it because of the retail (And more to come) downstairs. The apartments are really nice and modern. My apartment came with a huge bar island that substitutes as a dining table. Closets are walk in and huge. I have a balcony which is great. My only complaint is the layout. My bedroom is really narrow. Otherwise, everything is perfect

Nice apartment space, but too many problems for a high price
I lived here for 2 years, and have to say that the only reason I signed up for year 2 was, quite frankly, a lack of a desire to move.
1) NOISE. I could literally tell you whatever movie my neighbor was watching at night or what rap song he is blaring at 1am. I also heard a dog bark every single weekend morning at about 6, 6:30am through the air vent - FOR SEVERAL HOURS. It drove me mad. I would call and no one ever did anything.
2) It's really confusing that this is such a "pet-friendly" building, yet every single grassy patch in the area has a no pets sign on it. When I get home from work at 5pm my dog is not about to wait 1 block to pee - sorry.
3) I was hit with a $180 rent increase when I resigned my lease (which, there was no arguing because it was still technically "below market.") Good times. BUT it is so interesting because the building is almost empty and every weekend there's a guy spinning signs on Clarendon Blvd. $2400 for a 1BR? The going rate in Arlington is high but this is just too much for the quality.
4) Closets - A lot of the units (at least the "reasonably" priced ones do not have walk-in-closets. Why a new building these days doesn't have WICs is beyond me, but I literally just had piles of boots on my floor all winter because, whelp, no room for a dresser either.
5) The ultimate reason I moved - I literally could not handle another cold shower. THE HOT WATER HEATERS ARE TERRIBLE - seriously - ENJOY COLD SHOWERS IN YOUR $2400 A MONTH 1 BR. After several months of trying to wash my hair with virtually NO water pressure, I finally convinced management to take out the "low-flow' device. Much to my displeasure, I now had hot water for about 5 minutes of my shower. I had management come back several times to adjust my hot water heater until i was eventually told "Well you get hot water for 9 minutes, and we can't legally turn it up anymore." So you're telling me I have 9 minutes to shower? Considering I pay over 2 grand a month to live in 500 square feet, I'm pretty sure I should be able to shower daily for more then 9 minutes. Some days this winter I just wouldn't shower because I couldn't handle the unbearable moment when it would switch from warm to cold. It was my own personal hell.
6) When I moved out I was charged an entire month of rent, and when I asked about it I was told to basically pay what I thought I was supposed to pay and hope for the best. When I dropped off my keys they were like "You're aware you have a balance right?" and I was like OH HELL NO I don't. Sorry, it's 2015. Your software can pro-rate rent. That was just shady AF.
That said, I loved the layout of my apartment, the windows, etc. And the concierge, Rosa, was always so wonderful to me and any friends I had stopping by. BUT The bottom line is you can move somewhere nicer/closer to the Clarendon/Courthouse area for the same price. DO IT.

Love the Sedona
I am in love with the apartment! It is new, clean, and beautiful! It is on the pricier side but the quality and amenities are great. The apartment has a swimming pool, gym, recreation room, free printing, mail room, security, toggles required to get into the elevators for extra security, parking for cars and bikes. Rosslyn is farther away from campus than Foxhall, Glover Park, etc. However, it is a central location for highway access during rotations and a few blocks away from the free shuttle bus to school. It is also a few blocks away from the metro, which takes you all over DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Rosslyn has a lot of corporate buildings so it's really busy during the day and pretty quiet at night. So there are a lot of good places to get lunch. It doesn't have the most vibrant night life but it's really close to Clarendon and the metro gives access to other fun areas. The management is very responsive to plumbing concerns or any other problems. Overall, great apartment - quite a few medical students live in Sedona and Slate.

Rosslyn Reviews
However, this has been a business district for ages. There is very little going on around here and many of the restaurants don’t even open on the weekends. But, that’s changing. So stay tuned! (Also, I like living in Virginia because my vote counts for more here!)
