Convenient apartment near 53rd Street
My apartment complex is a fairly basic complex, but in an absolutely ideal location in Hyde Park. Located roughly three blocks from Trader Joe's, five from Whole Foods, and three from Target, shopping for groceries is so easy. It is also close to nearly all the major restaurants/bars in Hyde Park and is approximately a 20-25min walk from campus. It is also two blocks from the 171/172 bus stop. So if your aim is to be close to "downtown" Hyde Park, this is a great apartment.
For the actual complex, it doesn't offer too much in the way of amenities. It has a locked bike room and shared laundry facilities (there is parking, which I don't use). It also has a lobby for easy mail use. But it lacks an elevator which makes moving into the top floor (technically the fourth floor) very exhausting. It also doesn't have a gym. Moreover, while the walls are brick and basically soundproof, at least my apartment door could be a lot better at blocking ambient sounds.
My actual apartment (a studio) was remodeled right before I moved in so I have granite counters and new appliances, but still rely on a radiator for heat and had to provide my own AC unit. Nevertheless, my apartment has no major issues and has worked out perfectly for me, despite its smallish size. My largest complaint is that I have exclusively north-facing windows so I get no direct sunlight at any point during the year. If direct sunlight is a concern, try and secure an apartment with south-facing windows in the complex.
